Zurich ran an online story across their adviser network last year on advice businesses embracing social media. As a supposed 'guru' in this space, I was interviewed for the article. Financial Standard (www.financialstandard.com.au), an industry publication has picked up the story and expanded it into a Special Report, entitled "Risk Advice Gets Social".
It's interesting to see how much things have changed since I made the comments last October. I am definitely much more Social Media savvy! (Though I still have lots to learn!)
Read the article here.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month - October 2011

Did you know?

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Australian women, accounting for 27% of all cancer diagnoses in 2007

The number of women diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia increased from 5291 in 1982 to 12,567 in 2007

For women, there was an increase in relative survival after diagnosis of breast cancer between 1982-1987 and 2000-2006, five-year relative survival increased from 72.6% to 88.3% respectively

So many people are affected by breast cancer and it only takes a close friend being diagnosed for you to think about what it might mean for you. I met up with a friend over drinks the other day. She is in her early 40s and is currently going through chemotherapy after having undergone a mastectomy. Her strength, courage and resilience is inspiring.

So few women however take the opportunity to insure against cancer when they are young and healthy enough to take out the cover. I believe it is vital that people have good quality affordable insurance cover that will give them the financial peace of mind they need in the midst of a trauma.

In acknowledgement of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, from now until 31st December 2011, we are offering:
1. A no obligation insurance health check. We will quickly and painlessly diagnose any gaps in your existing insurance package and determine whether you are eligible for trauma insurance.
2. For every female trauma insurance policy that is taken out, we will donate $50 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

This Award recognises professional excellence and outstanding work in addressing the particular issues faced by many women in achieving financial security now and in the future.
“We operate a ‘family’ focused business, specialising in helping families and small businesses with their financial needs. Women and mothers represent an extremely important role in the family unit, so our business must be aligned with the needs of women,” said Naomi.
“I am honoured and excited to be part of this award as it respects the role I play for my clients and in my community as a financial adviser passionate about leading and educating women to better understand how to make the most of their financial resources.”
The Female Excellence in Advice Award is sponsored by the Association of Financial Advisers (AFA), TOWER Australia – the country’s largest life insurance specialist – and Sydney’s Macquarie Graduate School of Management. These institutions have joined forces to encourage female advisers to take leadership roles in the currently male-dominated financial advice profession. The Award recognises the achievements of female financial advisers in the workplace and their commitment to assisting women to gain financial stability and peace of mind.
“Naomi has been signalled out by her industry peers as someone who is tackling this serious problem and is working towards being a part of the solution,” said CEO of TOWER Retail Life, Brett Clark.
“Far too many women are under-insured and under-resourced for retirement. Research tells us that in Australia, half of women between the ages of 45 and 59 have less than $8,000 in superannuation. At TOWER, less than one fifth of income protection policies are held by women and yet women make up half of the workforce in this country.”
The CEO of the Association of Financial Advisers, Richard Klipin, also congratulated Naomi Rosenthal on her nomination.
“With this nomination, Naomi has been recognised for her professional achievements and her efforts to reach out to women of all ages in all situations to help them secure their financial future.”
For more information please contact Naomi Rosenthal on 02 9417 6011, or email info@tudorinvest.com.au.

The Risk Store - Annual Conference

I'm heading to Hamilton Island tomorrow for a few days. It's not all fun in the sun, though I'm incredibly excited, as I'll be co-presenting a workshop with Marc Fabris from Zurich on social (connective) media and how it can fit into an advice practice. This is such a brilliant opportunity. You can follow our discussion on Twitter - #trsforum @naomi_tudor @marcfabris @riskstore.

It's here! The unedited, unabridged version (and a short one for those who are time poor) of my first foray on the radio. As part of the programme, I delivered a speech from the Toastmasters Advanced Communication Series Storytelling manual. Project 1 is "The Folk Tale" and it's all about bringing a story to life using vivid imagery and voice to enhance the tale. Perfect for radio! I've chosen "The Three Billy Goats Gruff".

Full Version of Sunday Toast, Sunday 3rd April 2011.
Short Version of Sunday Toast, Sunday 3rd April 2011.

At my SHE Business Australia meeting yesterday in North Ryde, I was proud to present the Four Rules of Money to the group. Coupled with a lively and dynamic presentation from Joanne Prior on her experiences with money, it was a great team effort and a fantastic luncheon.
