Naomi In the News (again)

Zurich ran an online story across their adviser network last year on advice businesses embracing social media. As a supposed 'guru' in this space, I was interviewed for the article. Financial Standard (www.financialstandard.com.au), an industry publication has picked up the story and expanded it into a Special Report, entitled "Risk Advice Gets Social".
It's interesting to see how much things have changed since I made the comments last October. I am definitely much more Social Media savvy! (Though I still have lots to learn!)

We've updated the Statement of Advice (SOA) Information Booklet available on our website for download here.
This booklet gives you some great additional information that will add to your knowledge on financial matters and is an easy reference guide for such information as current Centrelink Age Pension rates, employer responsibilities for superannuation, getting money into and out of superannuation and current Income Tax rates.

Did you know?

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Australian women, accounting for 27% of all cancer diagnoses in 2007
The number of women diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia increased from 5291 in 1982 to 12,567 in 2007
For women, there was an increase in relative survival after diagnosis of breast cancer between 1982-1987 and 2000-2006, five-year relative survival increased from 72.6% to 88.3% respectively

So many people are affected by breast cancer and it only takes a close friend being diagnosed for you to think about what it might mean for you. I met up with a friend over drinks the other day. She is in her early 40s and is currently going through chemotherapy after having undergone a mastectomy. Her strength, courage and resilience is inspiring.

So few women however take the opportunity to insure against cancer when they are young and healthy enough to take out the cover. I believe it is vital that people have good quality affordable insurance cover that will give them the financial peace of mind they need in the midst of a trauma.

In acknowledgement of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, from now until 31st December 2011, we are offering:

It's here! The unedited, unabridged version (and a short one for those who are time poor) of my first foray on the radio. As part of the programme, I delivered a speech from the Toastmasters Advanced Communication Series Storytelling manual. Project 1 is "The Folk Tale" and it's all about bringing a story to life using vivid imagery and voice to enhance the tale. Perfect for radio! I've chosen "The Three Billy Goats Gruff".

Coupled with a lively and dynamic presentation from Joanne Prior on her experiences with money, it was a great team effort and a fantastic luncheon.
